Statement:
I love the processes and the physical act of making art. Each piece I create is a journey - a discovery of material, of technique, of my abilities, shortcomings and inspirations. Whether I’m working in two dimensional or three dimensional realms, the work reflects my interest in nature and its textures, patterns, forms and elements. I work in and with a variety of materials -- all of which are of the earth - clay, metal, glass, wood, paper, bone. Each has its own way of connecting my spirit to the physical earth, to this planet. I strive to understand the materials I work with and how the work I make bridges the realm between human existence and the natural world.
Over the past five or six years glass has become the core of most all the work I make. It works in combination with wood, bronze, clay, Paper and all the other mediums I work with. Glass has always been intriguing to me. I love the light, reflection and transparency of it. I love how glass can be bent and blown and carved and cast and broken and ???... I love how it can be predictable and yet totally unpredictable. It is a magic medium. It takes me to a mental space I like to be in -- that of wondering... What will happen next? What if? |
